Wellington’s Victoria University has evacuated students and staff this morning following a bomb threat.

The Von Zedlitz building on Victoria University’s Kelburn Campus was evacuated around 11am.

“We [were at university and] heard sirens and then a security guard came in and said we had to leave. We were escorted down eight flights of stairs to safety,” one student said.

Another student commented: “There are a lot of police on the ground floor at the moment and sirens coming from the street.”

Police are currently investigating.

Students are advised to go to the Hub for assistance and staff to the Hunter Common Room.

All classes and tutorials in Von Zedlitz have been cancelled until 1pm.

The rest of Victoria University is operating normally.

UPDATE: Hugh Mackenzie building and 22 and 24 Kelburn Parade have now been evacuated.

According to Stuff.co.nz, “a concerning note was found this morning”.
